This July, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Council for a Secure America conducted a poll of over 600 Jewish Israeli citizens to help inform its discussions with key stakeholders in America. The poll found that the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel produced significant shifts in Israeli public opinion, revealing a profound impact on Israelis’ views since the brutal assault and the subsequent war aimed at rescuing the hostages taken that day.

One striking finding is that 57% of Israelis or someone in their family have served in the military since October 7, reflecting the widespread mobilization and personal toll of the conflict. Additionally, 19% report having evacuated their homes, illustrating the broader disruptions faced by a huge number of Israeli families.

The poll shows a notable shift in policy perspectives. A majority now favors an international coalition, including Arab nations, to govern Gaza after the war. This preference underscores a desire for a more comprehensive and possibly cooperative approach to regional governance.

Another significant change is in attitudes toward a two state solution. Prior to the attack, many Israelis supported this path to peace with the Palestinians. Now, 65% oppose it, with nearly half of this shift occurring directly as a result of October 7, reflecting a deepening skepticism about the feasibility of such a plan amid ongoing terrorism and violence emanating from Gaza.

In contrast, support for the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations with several Arab nations, remains robust at 77%. This suggests that while Israelis are disillusioned by the hobbled peace process with the Palestinians, they remain hopeful about diplomatic solutions in the broader Middle East.

The poll also underscores how crucial the U.S.-Israel relationship remains, with near-unanimous Israeli agreement about its importance to Israel’s future security and economic stability.

Overall, these insights provide a vital snapshot of how recent events have reshaped Israeli attitudes and policy preferences, offering valuable context for U.S. policymakers.

In a world increasingly defined by energy interdependence and geopolitical maneuvering, we must champion ideas and policies that not only enhance America's economic resilience but also safeguard its national interests and strengthen its international alliances.

By fostering dialogue, promoting innovation, and raising awareness about just how critical energy security is to national security both at home and abroad, we can work toward a future where America stands at the forefront of global energy leadership and Israel remains a beacon of strength and freedom.
