In its recent legal action against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), South Africa had a real opportunity to help the people of Gaza. Yet, rather than argue that Israel had violated the humanitarian law of war, a sure winner, it argued that Israel was engaged in committing genocide, a sure loser.
