On September 25, 2023, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was given the order by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to remove a floating barrier installed by the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) in the southeastern area of the Scarborough Shoal, also known as Bajo de Masinloc (Under Masinloc in Spanish) and Panatag Shoal (Serene Shoal in Tagalog) in the Philippines. This was later deemed a “special operation.”
