The Good Ol' Days of Fear and Nuclear Nightmares

ostalgia is the wrong word, but the talk of nuclear weapons has certainly brought back memories for those of us who were young adults in the 1980s, when the prospect of Armageddon seemed to crowd our daily thoughts. Was there even any point in trying to survive, given it would mean a slow death by radiation and — an important consideration for the image-conscious young — your hair falling out? Even pop culture offered little escapism, with Sting’s Russians, Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Two Tribes and Prince’s apocalyptic Purple Rain.
