Within the span of a few days in April, violent confrontations erupted in East Jerusalem that were severe enough for the U.S. Embassy and State Department to put out a statement, expressing “deep concern” and calling for “safety, security, and rights” for all in Jerusalem. A Jewish supremacist group with ties to a newly elected Knesset member had walked through the streets chanting, “Death to Arabs,” as they hunted down and assaulted Palestinians during the height of Ramadan.
