As Prime Minister, Abbott has been courageous and right to advance his belief in border protection. He spoke for Middle Australia in doing so – including many ethnic minorities who support a tough stance against boat people to help boost public confidence in an orderly, large-scale legal immigration policy that serves the national interest. Abbott also stuck to other campaign commitments that resonate with the electorate, most notably the repeal of the widely unpopular carbon tax.
