#2 Mali
Despite a history of good relations dating back to the Non-Aligned Movement, India just opened an embassy in Bamako, Mali's capital, in 2009 while Mali opened its embassy in New Delhi in August of 2010. Indian exports to Mali have risen steadily since 2005, from U.S. $27.9 million to $42 million in 2009/2010. Mali's exports to India - principally raw cotton and agricultural products - have risen far more modestly, from $2.6 million in 2005 to $3.9 million in 2009/2010. Building on this growth, the two countries signed an agreement to cooperate on political, economic, scientific, technical and cultural matters in late 2009. Mali has sought out Indian investment in its mineral resources, which include a variety of valuable commodities such as gold, phosphates, uranium, zinc, tin, copper and oil.
