Qatar

Qatar has the highest disapproval rating of the United Nations of any nation surveyed over the past three years. At first blush, this seems rather curious. Qatar hasn't experienced any recent dust-ups with the U.N. Indeed, Qatar has been quite active in raising its international diplomatic profile of late. The country teamed with France to sponsor peace talks in Sudan and helped broker a ceasefire in the 2008 war in Gaza.  In short, Qatar - or, more accurately, its powerful ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani - has emerged as a relatively good global citizen. So why the U.N. animus? It's possible that Qataris' low opinion of the U.N. derives in part from a regional trend which holds the organization in low regard for its inability to broker a settlement between the Israelis and Palestinians.
