Syrian President Bashar Assad , whom President Barack Obama has for several years said "must go," apparently isn't going anywhere. His government's forces, backed by Russian air power, are in the final stages of crushing the major rebel stronghold in Aleppo. Assad has defied the international odds-makers — and Obama — with the help of his BFF, Russian President Vladimir Putin .
